Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP Track), BSN to DNP Degree
The Psychiatric Mental Health Track is a 77-credit hour graduate nursing curriculum preparing registered nurses to deliver a variety of therapy modalities and support services and prescribe medications for patients with mental health disorders and substance misuse. Emphasis is on utilizing evidence to develop holistic treatment plans and support that are specific to each client's psychiatric needs. This is an online program with four required virtual and on-campus immersions. The track utilizes a variety of clinical settings to include inpatient, outpatient, and group experiences, among others. The program of study conforms to educational guidelines from the Texas Board of Nursing, the Essentials of Doctoral Education for Advanced Nursing Practice (AACN, 2021), the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties (NONPF), and National Taskforce on Quality Nurse Practitioner Education. (NTF, 2022) Graduates of the track are eligible to sit for the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner certification exam offered by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC)
