Admissions for the BSED for Elementary Education/MSED Curriculum and Instruction Accelerated Degree Program
For undergraduate majors in Elementary Education who decide they would like to enhance their preparation for the field of education, the department offers an accelerated bachelor’s and master’s degree. Students should contact the Graduate Program Director in their sophomore year to indicate their interest in the accelerated program. If approved, they can take three graduate courses, TED 4312, EDC 5310, and EDC 5370, during their junior and senior years.  Having completed the BSED in Elementary Education, they can graduate with a MSED in Curriculum and Instruction after one additional year of study. Students are required to meet all requirements for the BSED in their undergraduate major for a total of 124 credit hours.

Admissions Process
Students who plan to apply to the Accelerated Degree Program must complete an interview with the Graduate Program Director prior to applying to Accelerated Degree Program.

Please note:  The GRE is not required for the Accelerated Program.

Sophomore Year - Apply for Admission to the Accelerated Program
Interested students should send an email the Graduate Program Director by March 15 of their sophomore year. You will be provided with a link to an online form and interested applicants must submit the following:

• Two academic letters of reference
  • At least one letter of reference must be from a professor in the student’s major degree program. Instructions for requesting letters will be included in the online form.
• Personal statement
  • ​Submit your personal statement in the online form
• Unofficial transcript (Must have a 3.0 GPA)

Official Acceptance is conditional upon admission to the School of Education and successful applicants will begin their graduate coursework the following fall semester. 

Senior Year - Apply for Admission to the Graduate Program
Students in the Accelerated Degree Program apply for formal admission to the Graduate School by February 1 of their senior year.

Students must submit the following:

• Online application to Graduate School
• Two professional letters of reference
  • This letter of reference should come from an individual who can speak to the student’s professional potential. The individual may have supervised the student clinical teaching or served as an advisor to a student organization in which the student served in a leadership position. References will receive an email with instructions for uploading the letter of recommendation.
• Official Undergraduate Transcript
• Professional Resume

​During the senior year, students must complete the following to continue in the Accelerated Degree Program in Elementary Education:

• Earn a B or higher in each course (TED 4312, EDC 5310, EDC 5370) taken toward the completion of the 9 hours of graduate credit in the senior year.
• Maintain a GPA of 3.0

Requirements for the Accelerated Elementary Education (BSED) >> Curriculum and Instruction (MSED) Program

To earn the BSED and MSED degrees in Elementary Education via this accelerated pathway, a student must complete all basic requirements for the Elementary Education (BSED) as well as the Curriculum and Instruction (MSED) programs. 

A maximum of 9 credits of graduate course work will count toward both degrees. These 9 credit hours include the following courses:
