The Master of Divinity / MA in Curriculum and Instruction, links the faculties, resources, and education of two of Baylor’s premier schools, School of Education and George W. Truett Theological Seminary. The program offers students an education that prepares them for careers in local congregations, in denominational leadership, in private school teaching and administration, or in some combination of these.

Purpose Statement

The Association of Theological Schools has established that the purpose of this degree is to prepare ministers who can employ the latest educational philosophies, strategies, and methods in congregational ministry environments as well as in public and private educational settings.

As denominational structures have diminished in size and influence, so too have the Christian Education products and services they once provided. Further, many churches have changed philosophies and methodologies of ministries of every sort, not the least of which their understanding of Christian Education. It is also true that church-related elementary and high schools are on the increase for a number of reasons. The Master of Divinity degree would provide the biblical, theological, and ministerial foundations for such positions, while the Master of Arts (Thesis) or Master of Science in Education (Exam) degree would equip students with the education skills necessary for the positions.

Admission Requirements

Students seeking admission to the dual degree program are required to fulfill admission requirements for George W. Truett Theological Seminary and the Baylor University Graduate School. Students must apply and be admitted to each of the programs. Upon commencing Seminary studies, the student may enroll in both programs.

Advising

All dual degree students are required to meet with someone in the Academic Services office at Truett Seminary and their advisor in the School of Education once a year to monitor their academic progress.
