DNP Nurse Practitioner Programs
Baylor's DNP Nursing Practitioner programs offer a 75-89 credit hour curriculum in the following concentrations:
Applicants who possess a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree, or a Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) without APRN Certification are eligible to apply for the BSN to DNP program. Applicants who have earned an MSN, hold APRN Certification, and are not seeking a new role are eligible to apply for the Post-Master’s Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree. Full-time and part-time degree plans are available. The DNP Program offers students opportunities to participate in global missions.
Admissions Requirements for the DNP Nurse Practitioner
Admission requirements for the BSN to DNP in NUPR:
For admission, applicants must meet the general requirements set forth by the Graduate School and the Louise Herrington School of Nursing.
Admissions criteria for BSN to DNP at the time of application:
- Completed BSN with a nursing GPA of 3.0 or higher. Applicants who attend a program that issued Pass or Fail (P/F) grades or Complete or Incomplete (C/I) for all classes will not be a competitive applicant.
- Experience:
- AGACNP - 1-year full-time experience as a registered nurse.
- FNP- 1-year full-time experience as a registered nurse.
- NNP- 1-year experience as a registered nurse in a level III NICU.
- PNP- 1-year full-time experience as a registered nurse in a pediatric setting.
- PMH-1 year full-time experience as a registered nurse. (Priority may be given to those with psychiatric mental health nursing experience.)
- Unencumbered and current RN license
- Three letters of recommendation from: an immediate supervisor, one from a peer registered nurse, and one from an MSN/APP, DNP, PhD prepared nurse or MD/DO.
- An acceptable writing sample using your own words.
- There is no foreign language requirement.
Admission requirements for Post-Master’s DNP in NUPR without an APRN role change:
- Master’s degree with APRN certification.
- Unencumbered APRN license.
- Cumulative Master’s GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Documentation of successful completion (grade of B or better) of a health-related graduate level statistics course prior to matriculation in the program.
- Acceptable writing sample in your own words.
- Three letters of recommendation from: an immediate supervisor, one must be from a peer registered nurse, and one from an MSN/APP, DNP, or PhD prepared nurse or MD/DO.
- There is no foreign language requirement.

The 6 hr. of the typical 47-hr. Advanced Practice Nursing Core (BSN to DNP) are replaced by Neonatal Nurse Practitioner courses as follows:
- Instead of NUR 5351 Advanced Pharmacology, Neonatal NP students complete NUR 5361 Advanced Newborn/Infant Pharmacotherapeutics
- Instead of NUR 5354 Advanced Health Assessment/Promotion/Disease Prevention, Neonatal NP students complete NUR 5163 Advanced Assessment and Diagnostics of the Newborn/Infant Practicum and NUR 5262 Advanced Assessment and Diagnostics of the Newborn/Infant

Post-Master's DNP students must be admitted to the concentration matching their current APRN role but do not complete the typical concentration coursework that would be required by the BSN to DNP track.
